DO PEOPLE SEE LOVE IN DIFFERENT COLORS AROUND THE WORLD?
Culture can shape the way people feel about different colors. This can be influenced by the surrounding landscape, food, and traditions. By examining the most submitted colors by location, we can explore how the environment informs people’s feelings about color. These color preferences are unique to their locations and can tell a lot about the culture and the people who live there. Through bringing the Unsent Project to different cities we can gain a deeper understanding of the connection between color and location.
Site specific Unsent Project collages have been created in different parts of the world. The time-based collages display anonymous submissions of people in the community. The collage begins with a few submissions in the center of a white wall. Each day, visitors are able to submit their own unsent text messages. As we receive these submissions, they are printed out and added to the collage. Day by day the collage expands from the center out. The collage has the potential to grow as large as submissions will allow. The color patterns of the collage are completely determined by the submissions and the order that they are submitted in. The collages for the following cities are documented digitally below. Click the collage image to learn more about the installation in that city.
